Première introduction [à la première partie] De l’amphibologie

One of the peculiarities of sacred texts from the Jewish tradition written in Hebrew is the amphibological dimension of this language’s three-letter roots. On top of a ­text’s polysemy, there is the amphibology–or double meaning–that remains unresolved by the ­context in which it appears. Taking part in the tradition of translation is what allows amphibology to be uncovered, when we ­compare translations that have appeared throughout history.
