Beyond their design to serve as a medium of ­common names, the elements of the material and intellectual world are frequently defined by proper names and titles that function so as to individualize them. The ­cultural associations transmitted by these attributions tend above all to reflect a series of ­cultural interpretants (agents) that represent the ­culture of a region itself. This text proposes to enter the Mediterranean ­culture via its « pressonymes », by studying written Greek as used in newspapers and other works in print, particularly as these are integrated to form a dictionary.
