Le traducteur du théâtre en tant que lecteur participatif

Is it possible to translate theatre? Translation is regularly faced with the difficulties of textual transmission: what words ­connote, what ­contextualises them. Using the translation of the play by Saadallah Wannous Rituel pour une metamorphose, and beginning with the hypothesis that the translation of theatre makes the translator at once a spectator, a discreet partner, and a participatory reader, this article articulates the challenges specific to theatrical translation.
