The fact that the baron d’Holbach borrows the name of Nicolas-Antoine Boulanger in his Christianisme dévoilé, at the same time as he is editing the works of Boulanger corresponds to a general strategy which enables the baron to inscribe his own compositions in a highly polemical framework while disguising his own responsibility. But his debt towards the works of Boulanger is considerably more important, even when the latter’s name is not explicitly invoked.
