Although Galadriel in Lord of the Rings and Circé in the Odyssey both belong to the literary world of magicians, Tolkien was not Homer’s follower. Close study of the couple formed by Galadriel and Shelob, and their creation, invalidates the idea that there was such a thing as a « myth of the sorcerer » inherited from Antiquity.
