Abstract: Is it possible to translate theatre? Translation is regularly faced with the difficulties of textual transmission: what words connote, what contextualises them. Using the translation of the play by Saadallah Wannous Rituel pour une metamorphose, and beginning with the hypothesis that the translation of theatre makes the translator at once a spectator, a discreet partner, and a participatory reader, this article articulates the challenges specific to theatrical translation.
