• Abstract: The aesthetic vision communicated via the illustrated plates of the Grand Larousse of the first half of the twentieth century at first appears odd and obsolete. The articles of the Larousse mensuel illustré (1907-1957) counter this impression. On the one hand, the authors define, precisely and rigorously, the aesthetic extolled by the dictionary : that of modern classicism. On the other, they constantly seek to form the reader’s taste.
