Abstract: The terms delocutivity or pragmatic metonymy refer to the transformation of a fragment of discourse into a new lexical unity. While literature on this subject argues that this phenomenon affects the lexicon of Creoles in particular, this contribution seeks to demonstrate, based on a case study of Haitian Creole, that this phenomenon is not particularly linked to Creolisation. On this basis, a new approach to pragmatic metonymy is proposed.
