- Abstract: The age-old question of literalism in translation has often been the object of truly heated debate. The author interprets this as part of the syndrome of the theological unconscious and discusses the problematic figure of Walter Benjamin. Having invoked psychoanalysis as a paradigm of intelligibility, he criticizes the positivism of recent retranslations of Freud and implicates the religious unthought of modernity.
