With specific references to the history of art as well as popular culture, this paper is concerned with the psychological aspect of the killer as a figure, more specifically the serial killer. It deals with the notion of « criminal space » which suggests that the killer, as he inflicts death, finds himself in a parallel psychological reality and a parallel space-time. This makes him a cathartic being in the eyes of the world, such as the protagonists of Greek and Latin tragedies or of Roman games.
