« Un chacun et chacune, O Roy, t’honorera » Factions et dramaturgie tragique dans l’Adonias de M. Philone (1586)

This article examines the complex ideological stakes underpinning the plot and biblical subject matter of Adonias by M. Philone, a tragedy which first appeared in 1586. If the Reformist provenance of the play is certain, the successional configuration opposing the two sons of David, Adonias and Salomon, is less easy to decipher. This analysis suggests that Adonias addressed a Reformist public who had difficulty accepting Henri IV’s political turnaround.
