This study starts by distinguishing the Self and the individual so as to show that Rousseau’s description of sensations demonstrates the permanence of the relationship to the Self. Pleasure, or ecstasy emerges within him, contrary to mystics, due to the celebration of self-consciousness, a growing love of self.
