AB  - Rose was the first name of Różewicz’s lover; she was assassinated by the Nazis. From that moment on, a permanent quest to express unspeakable realities haunted the poet, and “Rose”, “the flower that one places in the hollow of the hand and the young girl one lays in the ground”, came to function as a synecdoche for the Holocaust. In this poet’s late text, it is the woman who offers the rose whose disturbing beauty the poet is denied. The poetic universe and the real world cannot meet.
