AB  - R. Depestre's poems lead us to embrace love and hope. From them, there arises a hymn or ode to life, in the face of, and in spite of, barbarous deeds and war-like acts. There springs therefrom a kind of energy, a desire for the fullness of life’s passions. The poet sensually evokes woman and her curves, the body and its orgasms, blood, marrow and sun, trees and their fruits, all within a poetic chant of sprigs of grass and the brilliance of stars intertwined.
