Proust au temps du cinématographe : un écrivain face aux médias JO - Revue d’études proustiennes (ISSN 2430-8218), 4, 2016 – 2 DO - 10.15122/isbn.978-2-406-06802-0.p.0219 SN - 2430-8218 SP - 219 EP - 284 AB - In 1923, the art critic Paul Fierens, in an homage to the writer, evoked the analogies between Proust’s work and the nascent cinema. This article tries to capture the multiple relations that connect the writer and the cinema, from the earliest days of its invention until its emergence as an art during the Great War. Contrary to popular belief, the cinema implicitly defines one of the aims of the Recherche. The writer is himself a character immersed in the history of the cinema.
