AB  - Confronted with the aesthetic theories of Proust and Ruskin, cinema and photography, the modern ‘vision machines’, offer a fertile terrain for examining the language and rhetoric of movement in the work of Proust. By way of metaphor, speed and mobility create analogies in the new world of cinema, fairground simulators, automobiles, and aeroplanes. Technologies of velocity relate to the new forms of vision from which writing emerges.
