AB  - There have been numerous German attempts to intervene in La Recherche: from Rilke to Benjamin, via Herman Hesse and Franz Hessel, to the stunning graphic novel version of Amour de Swann in which asides and speech bubbles take on a scope worthy of the French genius. There are languages which privilege the temporal aspect and render its full complexity in a refined grammar: German is one of these and can rival French in this aspect.
