AB  - The sonata of Vinteuil (Swann) has inspired many critics attentive to the musical properties of language – syntactical rhythm, phonic and rhetorical isotopes constructed in parallel, etc. Beginning with a consideration of the musical properties of the original and the major references, this study then observes the equivalents in the German version, in turn probing their linguistic and stylistic parameters and, beyond that, the possibility of a translation as “criticism in action”.
