AB  - In the history of novelistic description, the transition from the Enlightenment to Romanticism and realism marks an important shift. The status of description, as with the modalities of its integration in the narrative context, changes. The descriptive practice of Balzac is compared here to that of the Enlightenment novel. The benefit of the digital method employed is the way it allows a large number of examples to be combined with great attention to the textual detail.
