AB  - The Czech comparativist Václav Černý (1905-1987) did not devote a book to Claudel but he did accord him a particular place. Deriving from his militant ultramontain Roman Catholic spirituality, Claudel’s poetics possessed for Černý – who sought to make him acceptable to Marxists – a value of “universal humanism”. He situated him half-way between two lineages in modern French poetry.
