AB  - While the two-fold requirement to instruct and please has marked poetic discourse surrounding the fictional account from Antiquity to the modern era, the pivotal period ­constituted by the years 1480 to 1530, with regard to the brief narrative, elaborated new ways for the two principles to coexist. This ­contribution shows how profit and pleasure of narrative were reconciled through a practice of moralisation which made the moral a source of pleasure.
