This could be the motto which led Aristide Briand, reporter of the law of separation between the Church and State, to ­conceive of firm but balanced legislation. He developed a political discourse founded on the imperative of majority rule, singular rhetoric, and a lexical language with specific vocabulary. This allowed him to bypass numerous of the difficulties associated with the application of this law, voted in nonetheless with a ­comfortable majority.
