AB  - This article holds that the distancing of the marvellous in the Guillaume de Dole by Jean Renart participates less in a « realist » aesthetic than a critical exploration of the role of the marvellous in the fabrication of romance. In place of the marvels associated with vision in relation to the etymology of the term (mirari), it substitutes marvels of the oïr and conter which relate to hearing and language, thus showing that the supernatural is above all a pretext for narration.
