AB  - Associated alternately with the genres of history and romance, Wace’s Roman de Brut is the object of a significant generic hesitation. This article aims to treat one aspect of this ambiguity by considering nature and the treatment of marvellous motifs as tantamount to generic markers. In terms of their narrative function or origin in the historiographic tradition, the marvels of the Brut are more in line with the practice of the chronicler than the author of romances.
