AB  - Faction is a significant concept in the historiography of the Fronde. Although later strengthened by the reception of the Frondeurs’ Memoirs in the 18th century, the interpretation of the Fronde as a war of factions without political consistency and overcome by strong monarchical power originates in good part in the first histories of the conflict. Yet, in these texts, the notion of faction contributes to promoting new ways of presenting history’s moral and political lessons, thereby complicating the relationship between the writing of history ad the service of power.
