AB  - Schehadé’s theatre presents extraordinarily uniform stage directions. Turning to a form of protocol increasingly lost in the twentieth century, the playwright privileges inherited formulae and formats of stage direction. At first, a subtle poetry of the old-fashioned emerges from them. Next, they are a means of activating the magic of the theatrical ceremony in written form. Finally, we have an unexpected re-enchantment: the most rigid of stage directions build bridges between influences and serve Schehadé’s syncretic vision.
