The question of the body that is at the heart of Christianity—the Incarnation and Resurrection—is addressed with an esthetic nurtured by the transcendentalist ethic. Nudity becomes the issue in a relationship that connects the Orient and Occident. Gibran tries to overcome this by transcending the antagonisms that are in play, by taking the path of a spiritual eros to where it intersects with agapè and philia.
