AB  - By contrasting two systems of different values, we try to interpret the incomprehension which results from confronting the image of the Western Other with that of the Eastern self, as related in al-Ḥayy al-Lātīnī (Le Quartier Latin) by Suhayl Idrīs. This Other is, exclusively, the Western female: throughout his time in Paris, the hero constantly searches for the absent woman from the East.
