AB  - La Châtre, the first French person to translate Marx’s Capital, published a Dictionnaire universel in 1852 for which he was condemned. After exiles in Mediterranean locations—in Barcelona and Sanremo—he returned to France and reedited his dictionary in two volumes with the title Nouveau dictionnaire universel (1865-1870). Based on an examination of their microstructure, this study analyzes the articles devoted to Mediterranean countries as well as certain toponyms in order to reconstruct the author’s cultural imaginary of the mare nostrum.
