AB  - How does the heroine, faced with an alienating familial setting, manage to escape? The women at the centre of the narratives by Sylvie Germain (L’Inaperçu) and Hélène Lenoir (Son nom d’avant) seek to turn themselves individuals. For one, this evolution is based on the heroine’s progressive retreat into mastered ataraxia; for the other, a violent and incoherent forwards-facing escape. These women’s desire for emancipation finds an echo in the aesthetic dimension of the novelistic project.
