At the crossroads of entertainment and scholarship, this popular genre thus appears to be an efficient tool for evaluating the widespread representations of certain historical events. By analyzing a few French and English examples, we will see how stereotypes linked with the violence of revolutions are exploited; these stereotypes are in some way a legacy from the Romantic representations of the Revolution.
