AB  - At the beginning of the xxth century, the Revolution was a recurrent point of reference for several Algerian newspapers. For the freedom fighters of the first hour like Messali Hadj, the Revolution served as a model. In their eyes colonial France symbolized the Ancien Régime whose colonial fortresses had to be destroyed. The beginning of the war changed the colonial question, even if the Revolution remained a point of reference for the freedom fighters. In 1984, Kateb Yacine dedicated one of his plays to Robespierre, proof that the memory of the Revolution remained alive in Algeria.
