AB  - In 1734, Gabriel Seigneux discussed a plan he had to refute the Épître à Uranie with Louis Bourguet. In this project, Voltaire’s poem would be followed by La Religion défendue by the Catholic L. C. Deschamps; a text by Bourguet emphasising the supposed links between Voltaire’s verse and Spinoza’s naturalism; and, finally, Seigneux’s translation of J. Addison’s Of the Christian religion. While it was long discussed, however, this project never materialised.
