AB  - This enquiry concerns the papers of Marc-Michel Rey collected by Jeroom Vercruysse, which reveal a flourishing trade in clandestine manuscripts, offered to expert clients, for whom Rey reserved a special catalogue. Jacobi was a privileged client. Rey made a major contribution to developments in thought by diffusing philosophical writings addressed not only to privileged aristocrats or marginal intellectuals but also to those who shaped public opinion.
