AB  - As opposed to Diderot, the baron d’Holbach deliberately chose clandestinity. His works thus publicised a project of reform which aimed to reinforce the status of men of letters to the point that they constitute a counterweight to political authority. He was seeking to install a new political organisation more respectful of human rights. The example of private property alows us to introduce some nuances in the traditional portrait of the author of the Système de la nature.
