During his research, he made contact with Lorenzo Mehus (1717-1802), a protégé of the baron Philipp von Stosch and founder in 1742 of the Giornale de’ letterati of Florence. In this periodical is to be found a review of an edition of the correspondence of Pierre des Vigne in which is raised the question of his composition of the treatise De tribus Impostoribus. The correspondence between Daniele and Mehus also throws new light on the composition and attribution of the famous treatise.
