AB  - If model sermons from the thirteenth century were primarily functional, the Artes praedicandi were not indifferent to their formal quality or the beauty of language. Preachers echoed this, attentive to the harmony and ordered construction of their speech. Illuminated in this way, the texts of certain model sermons appear both functional and aesthetic: the careful architecture of a sermon by Jean de La Rochelle on the wedding at Cana is a case in point.
