AB  - The love of simplified forms and enthusiasm for the popular arts was a direct consequence of the industrialisation of the artistic field in the nineteenth century. For Nodier, the puppet-show became a symbol of the ideal art of a golden age. Medieval prints inspired certain visual artists, while writers sought to reproduce the artisanal character of hawkers’ booklets in their texts.
