AB  - The rather ambitious desire to reform dramatic theatre which animated the director was articulated at three levels : ethical, aesthetic, and technical. The aim was to transform all aspects of the theatrical spectacle : programme, set, the training of actors, and the public. The Vieux-Colombier theatre which Jacques Copeau co-founded allowed him to render this enterprise more concrete, even if its success could not quite equal its ideal.
