AB  - We know for certain that Rabelais was able to get his hands on the first two printings of Folengius’s Macaronées, dated 1517 and 1521. As for the third printing of the Macaronées (c. 1539), there is no reason to think that Rabelais did not know it as well, but to date we have no documents that prove this one way or the other. A link between an episode of the Fifth Book and a passage of book XXIV of Baldus may attest to his having read it.
