AB  - This article proposes a historical enquiry into the friendship between Rabelais, during his time in Lyon, and Hilarius Berthulphus (Bartel, Bertholf), the companion mentioned by the author of Pantagruel in his letter to Erasmus in November 1532. In the course of this enquiry we also discuss the Belgian humanist’s important role in European printing workshops, particularly in Lyon, from 1524 to his death in 1533.
