AB  - This article shows how the scene of Ménilmontant reveals a tension between a negative nature (the negation of society) and a positive nature. By transforming the negativity of nature into positive, “literary” description, Rousseau – in this respect a precursor of romanticism – generates a new idea of nature which resonates with the emerging idea of literature.
