It is based on Yvette Guilbert and was published in 1892 by Camille Lemonnier (1844-1913). The novelist uses the singer as the archetype of the fin-de-siecle’s actress: her body is associated with an erotic of violence and danger and it drives her to be, both idol and victim of the société du spectacle, at the time of its birth.
