AB  - This 2013 novel by Léonora Miano is the account of the “passion” of a people, its dehumanisation, and its resistance. These aspects are imbued with the rhythm of the epic, lifting the obscure veil on the African memory of the deep wound made by the slave trade; a memory so deep that it has been buried, as if forgotten. The novel recounts the transatlantic slave trade in an imaginary country situated in central/equatorial Africa in the eighteenth century, based around the imagined experience of a village confronted with the unspeakable.
