AB  - This article is dedicated to a little-known aspect of Papon’s work : his reflections on the function of the secretary, which features in the major work of his later life, les trois Notaires. If it is clear that, in France, to write about secretaries is testament to a familiarity with Italian concerns, the case remains that the theorisation of the secretary amounts to an observation or even, in the case of Papon, a critique of the administrative innovations of the last Valois.
