AB  - Through the character of Reger in Maîtres anciens, and the idea of skim-reading, Thomas Bernhard poses the question of totality and fragment. Reger’s logic is implacable: there is no perfection, nor totality, nor masterpiece; the grandeur of art is an illusion, form only exists in fragments. This article asks which–current–debate motivates this account and its connections.
