AB  - A document of legal practices at the beginning of the eleventh century, the Conventio Hugonis has sometimes been linked to the chanson de geste, which has incited heated reactions. This work returns to this debate and moves beyond the generalities discussed to date so as to compare the text with a particular chanson, that of Garin de Lorrain. Beyond the numerous factual resemblances, it is the nature of their ideological encoding which distinguishes these two texts.
