AB  - The distinction between censorship (as defined in judicial reporting of a text) and Literary Criticism raises real difficulties. The article is based on censorial reports by the Roman Church during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. What could specify Criticism, namely literary ­considerations, permeates the censorial reports either as a step in the judicial demonstration, either as a tool to better understand the meaning and scope of fiction submitted for examination.
