AB  - For Giraudoux, theatre is primarily a text. Dramatic language is the core around which his theory of the theatre gravitates. Squaring up to the excessive emphasis on scenery in the German theatre and the advent of Piscator, he tries to re-establish the authority of the author on the French scene by way of style. His conference papers, interviews, and writings all agree on the demand that the text must take up its rightful place of power: it is through language that theatre reveals itself, for language is sign, an element of truth.
