The use of detail seems to be at odds with the rhetoric of brevity and of utilitas. While the gothic detail is at the center of an esthetic defense of the fable, Jean de Courcy’s return to detail in the portrait of Pasiphaé allows us to observe the phenomenon of microlecture and the axiological shift brought about by this hermeneutic.
